The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)

I can remember watching this film for the first time years ago, not long after it was released on DVD. I remembered liking the film and being pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the film. While I didn’t seem to enjoy the film as much as I had remembered, I still thought the film had a lot of things going for it. Like most Disney films, this film almost perfectly utilizes any and all visual effects that are available. I always find it interesting to see relatively unknown actors taking the reigns as the lead in a film. This film, in particular, uses four actors that, prior to 2005, had very little acting under their belts. I thought, considering their lack of experience, these four actors did a phenomenal job of selling to the audience the astonishing world of Narnia and everything it encompasses. There were some things, however, that didn’t quite cut it in my opinion. For example, the scene towards the beginning of the film where James McAvoy’s Mr. Tumnus brings Georgie Henley’s Lucy Pevensie back to his house for tea just left a lot to be desired. As he plays his flute and she starts to fall asleep he gives her one of the creepiest looks I’ve seen in film. His awkward gaze is so bizarre that it actually made me uncomfortable when watching it. I find the story interesting, however, from what I understand, the story in the film doesn’t do the novel justice (which makes this film a little disappointing). This film isn’t terribly disappointing, however, as far as fantasy films go, this falls a bit short of its contemporaries. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0363771/
