See You Soon (2026)

I have to say, I did not see this coming. In part, because I go into everything I review as blindly as possible and because what See You Soon seemed to be setting itself up as was partly a ruse. See You Soon was phenomenally entertaining in a completely unexpected way. 

It starts with a young woman (Jordan Hurley) tending to her nosebleed. She's at work, in a small homegoods & decor shop with her mother (Laurie Mahoney). They're in the process of cleaning up the absolutely destroyed shop, while talking about the daughter's relationship and her plans to move away [with him], as well as a story about someone's cat who was a domestic terror. The story was such that said cat was destroying rooms and belongings in a way that was seemingly similar to what these women were cleaning up. The way the scene was playing out, you could surmise there had been some crazy cat incident at their shop. The daughter wanted her mother to take in her cat, as she couldn't bring it abroad. Perhaps the daughter's cat had destroyed the shop. Perhaps a raccoon got in. I was curious as to what little furry terror had destroyed this room. 

As I've mentioned in previous reviews, I love when films use natural dialogue and interaction, so I was already invested in See You Soon and whatever was going to unfold in this mother-daughter heart-to-heart. I could see myself shopping or working in the quaint, currently upended shop. There was no animosity or toxicity between mother and daughter, just what seemed like a natural concern over the significant life change that was coming. The cat destroying everything was symbolic of these women on the verge of being torn apart. What mother wants their daughter to move out of the country? 

I was enjoying this low-key, mother-daughter interaction. I was also curious about the nosebleed. Was it from the struggle with the cat? Is it a dangerous animal? Does she have a medical condition? What is happening? 

Now, I'm fighting the urge to spill the beans and tell you what happened, but I want you to be surprised and enjoy it as much as I did. 

How about I say that See You Soon has a surprise ending that can/will/should knock your socks off? I think this is one of the best unexpected endings I've ever seen; not to oversell it. Maybe See You Soon should be titled “I didn't see that coming”.
