Cream Style (2026)

2026 GENREBLAST FILM FESTIVAL REVIEW! 

Cream Style is a mind-bending experimental short in which a man, Lond Pickleman (Bob Rose), eats bad creamed corn—which affects him for all of eternity. 

What do you do when a man talks to himself about creamed corn? What do you do when an animated man made of corn appears on your screen and proceeds to fuck Lond in the head with his oddly large dick? I don’t know that anyone can truly answer those questions—but that’s what viewers get in Cream Style. 

When all is said and done, Cream Style is less about creamed corn and more about corn cream—which is incredibly discomforting. The amount of times I had to see an animated corn man cum was legitimately insane. From start to finish the film made me uncomfortable. At the top of the film it’s the unique acting choices of Rose, and as the film progresses that discomfort comes in the form of the aforementioned sex acts. Writer-Director Rose didn’t achieve this by accident, however, as it’s clear he put everything into creating the most bizarre film possible. If only being weird was enough to make Cream Style a success—but it’s not. 

Sure, there’s a vibrant blend of live-action and animation, and while they aren’t perfect, it’s clear that Rose and his team have a grasp on how to integrate different filmmaking techniques into one another. What this aspect of Cream Style should have done was reel me into the film, but it simply exists—not doing much to entertain or intrigue. As much as Cream Style made me uncomfortable, this is sort of how I felt about the entire production. Nothing about the film is bad, but it simply is, not being enough to wow audiences or provide them a reason to buy in. 

I do enjoy kitsch-y films like Cream Style, films that challenge the barriers implemented by the majority of the movie-watching world. It steps out of the comfort zone of standard cinema, which is a powerful and meaningful move. However, in a film such as Cream Style, I need something deeper, something to balance the overbearing silliness that is aggressively presented to viewers.
