I thought the fact that there was a double plot twist in the beginning with Michael Peña’s character, Ponch,
was interesting. I thought this was a different approach at introducing a character. Even though this was a comedy and one doesn’t typically expect the most thought out story or for the tiniest of details to mean much to the filmmakers, however, a little attention to detail could have gone a long way towards the end of the film. The audience hears again and again how Dax Sheppard’s Jon has a titanium humorous in his right arm; this concept remains the same until the end of the film when, miraculously, this titanium humorous switches to his left arm. Due to the fact that this played a large role at the end of the film, it was a bit frustrating. I thought the film was funny and that the story was actually quite interesting. Like the Charlie’s Angels films from early 2000’s, this film puts an entirely, new and oddly comical, spin on a television classic. I truly believe that if I had regularly watched the original tv series, CHiPS (1977), I would have struggled to appreciate this film. With that being said, I’m not sure that it was the goal of Dax Sheppard to appease the generation that grew up with these characters. The film was good, but certainly not suitable for those who don’t care for blood. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0493405/
