The acting, in general, was better than I would have expected from a film of this time period. The most ridiculous scene in the entire film was when Barbara Payton’s Dina Van Gelder was spooked by something in her bedroom and she picked up a gun (which just happened to be laying next to her in her bed) and began randomly shooting at the air. To make the scene even weirder, Tom Conway’s Dr. Viet was just okay with the fact that she had no clue what she was shooting at. This was a unique love story between a woman (Barbara Payton) and a man (Paul Cavanagh) who changes between a human and a monster. The man struggles with the love he has for his wife and she struggles with the fact that she both loves him and is terrified of him (without even knowing it). It was interesting to see the characters develop over the course of the film, each having their own crosses to bear. I think without this dynamic the film may have been a complete dud. I had hoped to see more of the monster, considering much of the focus of this film was on what was happening regarding the monster. This, overall, was not a bad film, it was just a bit slow. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0043360/
