The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

Writer: Kyle BainKyle Bain

This was another phenomenal edition to the Dark Knight franchise. Whether or not this is true, I believe that had Heath Ledger not have passed this film would have been very different, however, with what the filmmakers were given, I think they put out an incredible film. I loved that there was more at stake in this film; compared to the other two films where hundreds of lives may have been at stake, this film could have resulted in hundreds of thousands dead. Bane was the first physically worthy adversary in the series. Where The Joker was more of a psychological foe, Bane was, in every way, the physical brute that the series needed before coming to an end. Though there were slow points in the film, I felt that the story was strong enough to keep me interested. What was great about the story was the twist at the end, the twist that almost brought Batman to an end too soon. I enjoyed Anne Hathaway’s Selina Kyle/Catwoman more than I had remembered. I thought she was a nice addition to the film and, at times, played a significant role in the story. If they weren’t going to make a fourth installment in this franchise (which obviously they didn’t) I think that this was the best possible way they could have ended this series. Batman, Bruce Wayne, Alfred and just about every other character from the series had closure, and closure in a way that was appropriate to each of the characters. Bale is the best Batman, Michael Caine is the best big screen Alfred, Ledger is the best Joker and the rest of the actors in the franchise are incredibly close to being the best, if not the very best, of their respective character. I typically am not the biggest fan of Batman or the other DC characters and their films compared to the Marvel Comics’ films, however, this film is as good as some of the MCU films (and I very much enjoy all of them). I am actually sad to see this series end, I would have loved to see more of these versions of the characters on the big screen. http://m.imdb.com/title/tt1345836/
