The best way to describe this film is simple and monotone, yet funny. Both Will Ferrell and Zach Galifinakis are typically known for being outlandish and wild in their films. While they are still incredibly weird (and we still saw some of the loud, ridiculous behavior), we got less of the wild side from each of their characters in this film than we would normally see from them. I typically enjoy each of their comedy, but the change worked well in this film and allowed for a different kind of humor; it was dirty and raunchy, however, much more dry than you’d expect from them. The best part of this film is the fact that it constantly makes fun of political campaign techniques. Whether you’re a Democrat, a Republican or something in between, we can all agree that come Election Day, every year, we are sick of the political commercials for each and every candidate. It was great to see the idea of ad campaigns bashed again and again and to finally get a little pleasure from politics rather than “agida.” While this isn’t the funniest film I’ve seen, I seriously enjoyed a number of the scenes—particularly the one with Galifinakis’ Marty Huggins’ family at the dinner table as they spilled their guts to one another. Expecting mild political humor and not what you’d typically expect from these two actors will allow you to appreciate this film. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1790886/
