The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)

This film was more of the same from the first two films of the trilogy. As much as I enjoy the plot and I appreciate the constant game of cat and mouse, I wanted them to veer from it in this film. My guess is that director, Paul Greengrass and the writers had a similar feeling. The beginning of the film stepped away from the typical chase that spanned the course of the first two films (at least regarding Bourne’s character). However, they quickly put an end to that and reverted to the story-line from the other films. As tiring as the hunt for Bourne has become, the writers and director have still managed to find a way to make the films interesting. One of the most intriguing characters, other than Jason Bourne, is Julia Stiles Nicky Parsons. Her allegiance is like a pendulum from minute-to-minute and film-to-film. Because of this, it is interesting to see her character’s development from the first film through to the end of this film. It was also nice to see her have a slightly larger and more important role in this film compared to the first two. The fight between Matt Damon and Joey Ansah was phenomenal. It was choreographed very well and Ansah’s Desh was quite possibly the biggest physical threat to Bourne so far. Finally, towards the end of the film, we were hit with the biggest revelation of the series; we finally learn how and where everything started. Saving this for what was meant to be the final film was a smart idea. Even though it took three entire films, this reveal was worth it; not because this was a huge surprise, but because revealing what they did seemed to bring the series together and to an appropriate close. This was a great way to end the series. However, now that there have been more films made, I’m looking forward to seeing how they reignite the series. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0440963/
