Christopher Nolan, once again, stuns the world with a masterpiece unlike anything anyone has seen before. Nolan focuses very heavily on sound and visuals rather than dialogue. He uses dialogue only when absolutely essential; he uses the characters to deliver necessary information to the audience (and only in a way that did not take away from the rest of the film). Nolan chose to have the audience focus on what was taking place rather than on what was being said. The film’s score, put together by none other than Hanz Zimmer, was fabulous. Along with the acting, the score is what intensified the film and what made the audience understand how dire the situation was for the men standing and waiting to be saved in enemy territory. The acting in this film, considering the lack of dialogue, was done incredibly well. Harry Styles (Alex), for his first legitimate time acting, is surprisingly talented. Fionn Whitehead (Tommy) and Tom Glynn-Carney (Peter), along with Nolan’s usual choices, Tom Hardy (Farrier) and Cillian Murphy (Shivering Soldier), portrayed, incredibly well, the soldiers that were not only attempting to survive the constant attack in Dunkirk, but were doing the best they could to protect those around them. Their facial expressions and their movements guided the audience down a road of difficulty and hardship and so perfectly allowed the audience to feel as if they were there to experience what eventually became one of the greatest rescues of all time. Nolan’s choice to focus mostly on visuals rather than dialogue allowed the audience to better see and understand the sacrifices made by many and the difficulties that so many young men faced over the course of these few days. Excluding dialogue in much of the film gave the viewers the opportunity to see exactly what those few days looked like and what it meant to the individuals involved. With the film’s slew of talented actors, sound that engulfed the room in which the film was being watched and the characters relaying information at just the right time and in just the right manner, the film was incredibly successful in relaying its message and successfully displaying this historical event. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5013056/?ref_=nv_sr_1?ref_=nv_sr_1
