Constantine (2005)

Keanu Reeves is known, by many, for a being a subpar actor while still being considered among Hollywood’s elite. I had low expectations for his acting in this film and I was right in feeling this way. He, like usual, possessed the persona and the accent of a California surfer dude. It seems that he lacks the ability to lose these qualities when he acts. Due to that fact, it seems to me that he is better off sticking to roles like the one he plays in the “Bill & Ted” films. The doofy and slightly clueless character that he regularly brings to the big screen is perfect for that type of role and severely hinders his ability to portray any other brand of character (at least in the films I have seen). What was not his fault was the fact that I have had the pleasure of watching the DC “Arrowverse” on television. The fact that I have been aware of Matt Ryan’s portrayal of Constantine since his appearance on “Arrow” in 2015 made it difficult to envision anyone other than Ryan taking up this particular mantle and even harder for me to accept Reeves performance in this film. Other than Reeves, I thought that the acting wasn’t half bad; Djimon Hounsou, Rachel Weisz and the rest of the supporting cast did well enough in their roles that I was able to look past Reeves’ atrocious acting and enjoy the film to some extent. This film was a bit cheesy at times and sometimes the graphics weren’t as great as they possibly could be considering the immense budget, but I actually thought that the film, as a whole, was decent. While I did enjoy the film to some degree, I am still looking forward to Matt Ryan’s portrayal of Constantine in the Arrowverse much more than I think I ever could for Reeves to continue playing this character.  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0360486/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
