As everyone knows at this point, Tom Cruise is one of my least favorite people in Hollywood, and, yet, he’s a fantastic actor. This film is a perfect example of his acting talent; Cruise’s Brian Flanagan goes from erratic, to romantic, to a slew of other emotions. I thought that his portrayal of Flanagan was believable and truly awesome. Cruise is not typically associated with comedy, but, I thought that the parts in which he was meant to be funny worked well. Along with Cruise, I believe that Elisabeth Shue is also a fantastic actor. Her portrayal of Jordan Mooney was incredibly convincing as well. While Cruise and Shue didn’t share much screen time, I thought that the two worked well together. The acting wasn’t the only positive in this film; I thought that the story was interesting as well. I imagine that it would be difficult to write an entire film based on the life of a bartender, however, Heywood Gould managed to make it work. Gould managed to take Flanagan’s character from military, to struggling bartender, to man crazily in love with his future without rushing the story or making it awkward at all. I thought that everything about the story was intriguing and captivating. I was genuinely impressed with this film. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0094889/
