The story, while very similar to the original, was much better than the previous versions of this film. I thought that the edition of a backstory for Cinderella at the start of the film made the film better as it added to the depth of the overall story. This film, compared to its predecessors, did a fantastic job of filling in some of the blanks and fixing some of the flaws of the story. For example: it is quickly, yet thoroughly enough, explained why the stepmother and both stepsisters are unable to recognize Cinderella when she is at the ball and having her drop the glass slipper rather than having it fall off as she was leaving the ball. I thought this film was done much better than the previous films, especially Robert Iscove’s version with Brandy Norwood. Kenneth Branagh typically does a great job with his films (whether his role in the film is as an actor or someone else in the cast), this film is no exception. While the story of Cinderella is not one that intrigues me entirely, I can’t deny that the film was well put together and well executed. Cate Blanchett, as usual, exceeds all expectations that one may have for her. She is certainly one of the better female actors of her generation and this film allows her to shine brighter than in many of her other films. Her acting was so good that I actually began to get aggravated at how terribly she treated Cinderella. Again, the story of Cinderella is not typically one that I would gravitate towards, however, this film wasn’t terrible. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1661199/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
