There was one, glaring, issue in this film: the fact that almost every character lacked emotion—sometimes their facial expressions changed, however, every single character remained almost perfectly monotone throughout the course of the film. I struggle to understand the allure of ballet, so, not being able to see or hear the emotions of the characters made it that much more difficult for me to buy into the story. The only emotion I really noticed was from Zoe Saldana early on in the film, and her tears were so obviously fake that the entire scene was immediately stripped of all attempted emotion. Just like any other walk of life, the characters struggle with accomplishing their goals and becoming who they want to become in life; this aspect of the film I can appreciate. The music in the film was also a lot of fun and was, by far, the best part of the film. The music was so good that it actually made portions of the film enjoyable. While this film wasn’t as bad as I had expected, like most other films revolving around dancing, I cannot imagine I’ll ever jump at the chance to watch this film again. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0210616/
