Like many Disney films, we see a princess who wants to create a different path for herself, a path that no one before her has taken. Unlike some of the Disney princesses we’ve seen before, Merida embarks on a journey that directly causes tremendous chaos within her and her family’s lives, as well as the lives of everyone around her. Merida is also, in many ways, stronger-willed than other Disney princesses we have seen. Often times, we see Disney eliminate a parent early in a film as a means of opposition for the protagonist. I found it incredibly interesting to see Disney continue this theme in a way that hasn’t been done before—at least that I can remember in a Disney film. The best part of the film was Merida’s triplet brothers, Hamish, Hubert and Harris (according to Steph, they are little dicks). I was much more impressed with this film than I thought I would be. I enjoyed the story and very much appreciated the characters. Merida, her brothers and her father were all quite funny. This may actually be one of the better Disney films. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1217209/
