Bernie (2011)

I found the beginning of the film to be very interesting. I understand that the topic at hand was a tad odd (prepping a body for burial), however, I thought that the first few minutes, as Jack Black’s Bernie Tiede explained how to prep a body, was incredibly informative and interesting. This film, in general, was strange to say the very least. I thought the story was odd, the characters were a bit outlandish and even the way that this film was shot was a bit out of the ordinary. Bernie was one of the strangest characters I’ve ever seen in a film, yet, weirdly enough, I enjoyed him and his story. I thought that Jack Black’s interesting acting techniques made this film much more enjoyable than it probably should have been. Moreover, Black did a phenomenal acting job. In most films Black portrays a character that presents the audience with a sense of comedy and humor and he is always successful in doing so. In this film, while he still leaned in the direction of comedy to help the film move forward, his acting ability, as a whole, shined brightly. Matthew McConaughey is possibly my least favorite actor of all time. He plays terribly similar characters in almost every one of his films and I feel that it has been worn out. On top of this, I feel that he, in general, is a horrific actor and his acting ability is just about non-existent (this film was no exception). I felt that his presence in this film actually made it slightly more difficult to watch. While the film moved slowly, I thought that the unique shock about halfway through the film was enough to keep me interested and wondering what would happen next. What was absolutely mind-boggling about this film was the fact that this is based on a true story. While I do not feel that this film is incredible, I feel that it may be worth a watch.  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1704573/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
