Batman Forever (1995)

Writer's picture: Kyle BainKyle Bain

I’m going to make a lot of enemies with this post, but I enjoyed this film much better than its three predecessors. Growing up, the only Batman film I had ever seen was Batman & Robin. With that being said, I find this film to give me a feeling of nostalgia. This film is colorful, vibrant and full of action, which is all I could have asked for as a seven-year-old, and that is why I think I like this film so much more than the others. Even though I liked this film, it still had its flaws. The acting, as a whole, was not good. Tommy Lee Jones, Jim Carrey and Val Kilmer all left something to be desired in the acting department. Jim Carrey’s version of the Riddler in this film was almost identical to his performance in The Mask and the live-action version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, making him annoying (not because I don’t like those characters, but because I’d hope for something a little different when attempting to portray a psychopath). Also, Val Kilmer’s Batman has the same issues as Keaton’s Batman. It bothered me that Robin essentially served no purpose in this film; he just made things more difficult for Batman in the grand-scheme of things. Not the best Batman film I’ve ever seen, but certainly better than the three that came before it. http://m.imdb.com/title/tt0112462/
