I stumbled across this film and, prior to watching, had absolutely no idea what it was about. As many know at this point, I am not one for “chick flicks;” I do not typically appreciate anything about them. However, this film was quite different than most “chick flicks.” I found this film to be more humorous than most others that I have seen and with that I thought that the humor was truly funny. The concept of this film was something completely unique compared to anything I had seen before and I thought that the director and writer, Richard Curtis, did an absolutely spectacular job of just about everything in this film. I thought just about everything about this film was a lot of fun and it certainly was incredibly entertaining. Often times the drama in films like this typically lies between the male and female leads as something strains their relationship or something of that sort. What was different and interesting about this film was that Curtis got these issues out of the way early and focused on issues that really tugged at the audience’s heart strings. Having moved so quickly past the typical “chick flick” issues and moving to ones that are more relatable made the film much better. It’s not often that a film is full of very likeable characters, however, this film had just that. Almost everyone from Domnhall Gleeson’s Tim to Bill Nighy’s Dad was perfectly enjoyable. With all of the enjoyable characters and the near-perfect acting, it was hard to say this, but I believe that Lydia Wilson’s Kit Kat may have been the best character from the bunch. She was fun, witty and truly the most energetic character in the entire film. The film, as a whole, was fantastic; it was hard to find a flaw, of any kind, in this film. It seemed to me that I enjoyed the film more and more as it moved forward, however, one of my favorite things was the plethora of Harry Potter references. The fact that Domnhal Gleeson was part of the Harry Potter series made references such as the use of the names Harry and Ron as well as mention of the name Hagrid that much more enjoyable. Again, while “chick flicks” are not typically my forté, I very much enjoyed this film. It was full of emotion--both positive and negative--and it forced its audience to become attached to the characters and the story. I very seriously suggest that everyone watch this film. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2194499/?ref_=nv_sr_1
